Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt FRGS

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt is professor for tourism management and director of the COTRI China Outbound Tourism Research Institute at the West Coast University of Applied Sciences Germany. After studies in Berlin and Hong Kong he holds a MA degree for Sinology and a PhD for Political Sciences. He is a research fellow of the Japanese Society of the Promotion of Science, a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in London and visiting professor at several universities in China (Yanbian, Ningbo) and the United Kingdom (Sunderland). For more than 30 years Prof. Arlt has been working in China and Europe in the fields of tourism, transport and scientific exchange as consultant, tour operator and researcher. He has published widely on Chinese tourism including the book “China’s Outbound Tourism” (Routledge, Oxford 2006) and has been quoted in international and Chinese Media including The Economist, Financial Times, South China Morning Post, Sohu.com, CCTV, Xinhua News Agency etc.

The COTRI China Outbound Tourism Research Institute is the leading research facility outside China for this topic. COTRI offers information, analysis, publications, workshops, consulting and training programs. Since 2004 COTRI organizes the annual CTW Chinese Tourists Welcoming Award to honor outstanding achievements in receiving Chinese guests. In 2008 COTRI started the China Outbound Tourism Quality Label which is given to companies and organizations which have committed themselves to a sustainable effort in providing quality services according to the specific needs and expectations of the Chinese outbound travelers.
